ROCB A/P Continues to Collaborate with the ADB on Customs Capacity Building for the South Asia Sub regional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) Countries

Mr. Takayuki Miyoshi, Program Manager for South Asia of the ROCB A/P, participated in the ADB SASEC 3rd Customs Subgroup Meeting held on 11-12 March 2015 in Goa, India. The meeting was hosted by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and attended by Director Generals and senior executive officials from Customs administrations of the SASEC countries (Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka). The delegates discussed a series of strategic topics, including;
(i) a Work Plan for 2014-2016 for the Customs-related strategic thrusts of the SASEC Trade Facilitation Strategic Framework;
(ii) national and sub-regional capacity building programs for Customs;
(iii) a proposed study on electronic exchange of trade-related documents between SASEC countries.
Mr. Miyoshi made a presentation on WCO’s capacity building programs and the way to further strengthen the existing partnership with the ADB to assist the SASEC countries and efforts in reform and modernization.
The meeting was preceded by a learning event on the Customs Compliance Programs, in which Ms. Harumi Chikada, Regional Development Manager for Asia and the Pacific Capacity Building Directorate of the WCOSecretariat, made a presentation on the principles of the Authorized Economic Operators’ program and other compliance-related programs.
