ROCB A/P promotes the WCO tools and instruments in the implementation of PNR
At the invitation of the APEC, Ms. Alpha Wong of the ROCB A/P participated in the APEC Workshop - Enhancing Travel Facilitation and Security through the Implementation of PNRGOV, which was held on 23-24 November 2016 in Bali, Indonesia. Approximately 50 representatives from Customs, airlines, and IT service providers participated in this Workshop. Representatives of the IATA, the ICAO, and the ROCB A/P joined the Workshop as resource speakers.
This Workshop was jointly organized by the APEC and the Indonesian Customs. It aimed to provide a platform for the APEC members and stakeholders to share their knowledge and experience in the implementation of the Passenger Name Record (PNR) data transfer message format for Government (PNRGOV).
On behalf of the WCO and the ROCB A/P, Ms. Wong spoke at the panel discussion with the resource speakers from the Indonesian Customs, the IATA and the ICAO. She emphasized the importance on global standards for passenger information exchange as well as the cooperation and collaboration among the WCO, the IATA and the ICAO in the implementation of international standards on Advance Passenger Information (API) and PNR. She also highlighted latest initiatives of the WCO in the development of new guidances on using the API/PNR data and building relevant systems. She briefed on the relevant capacity building activities organized by the ROCB A/P and encouraged the participants to join the future workshops for further enhancing their capacity in the use of API/PNR in contending transnational crimes and facilitating legitimate travelers.
