ROCB A/P joins the discussion on the region’s future priorities

In the wake of the discussion at the last A/P Regional Contact Point Meeting held in November 2016 in Fiji (please refer to workshop click here), the regional working group meetings were convened from 17-20 January 2017 at the Australian Department of Immigration and Border Protection to discuss the Members’ interests in the private sector engagement with Customs community as well as the development of the Regional Strategic Plan (RSP) for 2018-2020 and other technical coordination issues.  23 delegates from the Vice Chair Secretariat (Fiji), Australia, Fiji, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka, the RILO A/P and the ROCB A/P participated in the meetings.  Mr. Kazunari Igarashi, Head of the ROCB A/P, attended the above-mentioned working group meetings and joined the discussion and exchanges views on the future priorities for the A/P regional Customs community and, in a broader context, the forecast changes in the business environment surrounding Customs, such as trade facilitation, counter-terrorism, development in e-commerce, and so on.  As for the Customs-business engagement, the delegates discussed possible topics and modality thereof.  In terms of developing future RSP, delegates discussed the implementation and relevance of the specific actions embraced in the current RSP for 2016-2018 and projected several adjustments for further discussion by Directors General of the WCO Member Customs administrations in 2018. 

In the margin of these opportune meetings, Mr. Igarashi consulted participating delegations and shared the views on the needs and subjects for the planning and delivery of the future regional capacity building programs under the auspices of the WCO.
