The Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) Transport and Trade Facilitation (TTF) Development Partners’ Meeting was held in Manila, Philippines from 22 to 23 April 2014. The meeting gathered a total of 37 representatives from various international organizations, such as JICA, UNESCAP, WCO, etc. At the invitation of the Asia Development Bank (ADB), Mr. James K W Wong, Program Manager for South East Asia of the ROCB A/P, attended this meeting.
The meeting discussed the review, difficulties and the way forward for trade and transportation facilitation for countries in Asia, and in particular, ASEAN member countries. The representatives expressed their comments with a view to improving the ASEAN Economic Community.
In his presentation, Mr. Wong introduced the ROCB A/P’s activities in the development of donor engagement. He illustrated briefly that WCO facilitated capacity building initiatives that would help the transportation and trade facilitation. He also talked about the WCO’s efforts on the implementation of the WTO ATF and introduced some WCO tools and instruments useful in that regard.
The chairman thanked the ROCB A/P for the valuable input to the meeting.
