WCO supports Pakistan accelerating Customs modernization

At the invitation of Pakistan Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the WCO delegation consisting Dr. Kunio Mikuriya, WCO Secretary General, and Mr. Kazunari Igarashi, Head of the ROCB A/P, visited Islamabad, Pakistan with a view to meeting Pakistani government leaders to seek their political support for the on-going Customs reform and modernization and encourage their further contribution and commitment to a series of challenges surrounding Customs, including trade facilitation and supply chain security. To this end, the WCO delegation met Pakistani Finance Minister, Mr. Mohammad Ishaq Dar, as well as Commerce Minister and Special Assistant for Prime Minister on Revenue at the FRB Headquarters, in order to raise profile of the WCO activities and exchanged candid views on a series of matters, including counter-terrorism and supply chain security, trade facilitation and economic competitiveness, illicit financial flow, deployment of technologies and introduction of innovative business models, and Customs reform and modernization. On the same vein, the WCO delegation had very productive discussions with FRB Member (Customs), Mr. Muhammad Zahid, and his team on the way to future enhance collaboration between FRB and WCO.
