ROCB A/P raises the awareness of Visionary Leadership in Customs Modernization and Reform for the Myanmar Customs Department

At the invitation from the World Bank Group, Trade & Competitiveness of Myanmar, Dr.Tong hua, Program Manager of the ROCB A/P, attended the Myanmar Customs Leadership Course held on 22 and 23 August 2017 in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, as a guest speaker. At the request of Myanmar Customs Department (MCD), the World Bank Group organized the first executive leadership course for the MCD, aiming to provide the MCD’s executive-class officials with strategic thinking to handle various challenges associated with moving into new and increasingly more complex leadership roles, and gain a better understanding of global Customs initiatives that will help Myanmar Customs go along fast changing working environment. 15 Director- and Assistant Director-level officials from the MCD and 5 guest speakers, including Dr.Tong, as well as staffs from the World Bank Group and the UKaid attended and/or observed the Course.
Dr.Tong made a presentation on the topic of visionary leadership in customs modernization and reform, in which he highlighted the transformation of customs functions on trade facilitation and supply chain security. He also made a comparative study of the China Customs’ regional integrated clearance and paperless reform and the introduction of the Myanmar Automated Cargo Clearance System (MACCS), and echoed further input on the capacity building and leadership training program for the MCD. His presentation was well received by the participants and the representative of World Bank and Director of MCD jointly awarded a certificate to Dr.Tong, for recognizing the ROCB A/P’s professional input.
