At the request from the WCO Secretariat and the invitation from the INTERPOL, Ms. Saori Nojima, Program Manager of the ROCB A/P, attended the Asian Region Meeting held from 15 to 17 May 2018 in Singapore as a representative of the WCO to discuss joint enforcement against counterfeit and illicit medicines. Approximately 40 representatives from Police, Customs, health regulators, international organizations and the private sector participated in the Meeting.
Customs administrations are cooperating closely with the Police and other competent authorities as well relevant private sector to combat counterfeit and illicit medicines, including those sold online and traded internationally, because of their huge risks posing to the consumers’ health and safety. This Meeting provided the participating authorities and partners with an opportunity to reinforce the network for coordinated tacking to the counterfeit and illicit medicines and to further strengthen online investigation capability. Ms. Nojima made a presentation on the WCO’s initiatives in this domain. She in particular highlighted the Customs’ dedications towards combating counterfeit and illicit medicines at the borders and emphasized the importance of continued cooperation and coordination among the related parties.
