At the invitation of the of Association of Southeast Asia Nations (ASEAN) Director-General (DG) of Customs Meeting for 2020, Dr. Kunio Mikuriya, WCO Secretary General, and Mr. Norikazu Kuramoto, Head of ROCB A/P, participated the “ASEAN Customs DGs – WCO Consultation” held virtually on 19 August 2020.  The Program Managers of the ROCB A/P, Ms Yoko Mamiya and Ms Chloe Au, also joined the meeting to provide support.

The meeting was opened with remarks by Dr. Mikuriya by emphasizing the importance of Customs collaboration in the globe to continuously facilitate trade and secure society during this critical moment affected by the COVID-19.  Following Dr. Mikuriya’s highlights on the current WCO strategy and future developments in relation to regional integration and its economic growth, Mr. Norikazu delivered a presentation to introduce the work of the ROCB A/P and provide an overview of the upcoming capacity building activities for A/P Members as well as ASEAN Members.  He also shared with the DGs how the ROCB A/P overcomes the challenges emerged due to the COVID-19.  Mr. Norikazu reiterated that the ROCB A/P will commit its full-fledged support to organize and participate virtual workshops and meetings, enrich publications to promote information sharing among Members and maintain the synergy effort in the region, and prepare to arrange the conventional workshops when feasible.
