ROCB A/P attends the Thailand Maritime Stakeholder Workshop to Detect and Investigate Wildlife Trafficking in International Maritime Supply Chains

At the invitation of the Royal Thai Customs, Mr. Norikazu Kuramoto, Head, and Ms.Yuko Mamiya,  Ms.Zhengqing Ye and Ms. Sherman Yu, Program Managers of ROCB A/P attended the Thailand Maritime Stakeholder Workshop on Detect and Investigate Wildlife Trafficking in International Maritime Supply Chains held from 6 to 7 December 2022 in Bangkok, Thailand.

 

This meeting aims to enhance public-private partnership, raise the maritime sector awareness about illegal wildlife trafficking (IWT) in Thailand and relevant initiatives to address IWT as well as share global and national-level wildlife enforcement experience.

 

In his opening remarks, Mr. Norikazu Kuramoto underlined the importance of collaboration between WCO, its Members, other government agencies and other stakeholders. He also introduced the WCO tool “Frontline Customs Officers’ Guide to Key Multilateral Environmental Agreements” and demonstrated WCO’s and ROCB A/P’s commitment to building Members’ capacity.

 

During the workshop, participants actively discussed how to utilize the various tools to fight against IWT and enhance cooperation between government agencies and the private sector. Ms. Mamiya moderated the session concerning law enforcement tools and complementary initiatives. This workshop resulted in promoting cooperation among all stakeholders and deepening their understanding of the latest trend of IWT.
