The 23rd session of the WCO Integrity Sub-Committee (ISC) was organized by the WCO at the WCO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium from 26th to 27th February 2024 in a hybrid format. It attracted over 300 delegates representing over 100 Members participating in this conference. Ms. Zhengqing YE, the representatives of the ROCB A/P joined the meeting for updating the national practices and pioneering strategies aimed at fostering a resilient and corruption-resistant Customs community.
Echoing to the WCO theme for 2024 “Customs engaging traditional and new partners with purpose,” the conference highlighted the critical role for NGOs and private sectors to maintain healthy relationship with Customs from the fight against corruption. Moreover, this year’s session emphasized the significance of adopting new and innovative tools in combating corruption, including using the WCO’s Performance Measurement Mechanism and implementing Artificial Intelligence technologies. In addition, some important topics have been discussed such as how integrity strategies connect action and impact at various levels, both within Customs organizations and within their wider organizational, national, and international strategic context and what measures Customs institutions can take to protect officers from organized crime and its influence on corruption.
During the 2-day Conference, ROCB A/P appreciated the great efforts made by the WCO Secretariat. ROCB A/P was updated by the continued work of WCO A-CIP Programme and recent collaborative initiatives between Customs and the private sector aimed at combating corruption and Members’ sharing of specific national experiences. These exchanges have offered a diverse perspective on the global effort to address corruption within the Customs environment. Meanwhile ROCB A/P reaffirmed the commitment to work together with the WCO and Member Administrations to further promote the Customs Integrity in A/P Region.
