On Monday, 5 October 2026, the WCO Asia/Pacific Regional Office for Capacity Building (ROCB A/P), welcomed a delegation from East African Community (EAC) Secretariat for a visit and discussion.

This visit was organized by JICA and attended by Ms. Annette Mutate Ssemuwemba, Deputy Secretary General of the EAC Secretariat, Ms. Flavia Busingye, Director for Customs, along with officials from the EAC and experts who supports them.

The delegation met with Mr. Jun Tajima, Head of ROCB A/P, together with Mr. Takeru Yamazaki, Program manager.

During the meeting, Mr. Tajima extended a warm welcome to the EAC Secretariat delegation and Mr. Takeru Yamazaki delivered presentation to introduce ROCB A/P and our capacity building initiatives.

The discussions focused on ROCB A/P’s capacity-building support framework, approaches on follow-up for sustainability of capacity-building activities, possibilities for cooperation with other Regional Offices for Capacity Building (ROCBs), and methodologies for identifying and assessing Members’ needs.

Finally, the EAC delegation acknowledged the importance of needs analysis and highly commended the initiatives undertaken by ROCB A/P.

ROCB A/P will continue to strengthen its engagement and collaboration with Customs stakeholders, including regional organizations, in order to deliver more effective and impactful capacity-building support across the region.
