18th Meeting of Heads of WCO Asia/Pacific Regional Training Center

15th October 2020, Online Meeting Hosted by ROCB A/P

The 18th Meeting of Heads of WCO Asia/Pacific Regional Training Center was organized and hosted online by ROCB A/P on 15th October 2020. Participants of the meeting are from RTCs, WCO Secretariat, Vice Chair, and ROCB A/P. In addition, Iran Customs and Indonesia Customs, who are currently applying for the RTCs, and RILO A/P were also joined as observers. To maintain an opportunity of members for exchanging views and experiences under the time of pandemic of COVID-19, the ROCB A/P decided to host and organize the meeting by online for the first time this year to stop international travel and keep social distance. The meeting was started with the opening remarks from 2 speakers namely Mr. Taeil Kang, Director of Capacity Building Directorate of WCO, followed by Mr. Norikazu Kuramoto, Head of ROCB A/P.

At the meeting, information of WCO policy, Asia Pacific region’s activity, and regional capacity building activities were shared and presented to participants by RDM WCO, Vice Chair Indonesia, and ROCB A/P respectively during the Information Sharing Session. Capacity building related information and activities including hot topics of WCO were clearly presented during this session. Consequently, these information are good references for members and could lead to understanding of regional activities in this fiscal year. Also, during the discussion session, each RTC briefly shared and exchanged their challenges, experiences, impact to staff training, and best practices of the training methodologies under the influence of COVID-19 among members. Besides, each participants and observers made a good communication through the chat box that was a good opportunity to enhance ongoing relationships among each other in the future.

The meeting was finally wrapped up and successfully ended with the Way Forward Session by Mr. Kuramoto followed by the closing remarks from Mr. Takashi Sato, RDM CBD WCO, and Mr. Kuramoto from ROCB A/P respectively.
