Pacific Islands’ Members are in the process of developing training materials for the Pacific region


12 – 16 June 2023, Suva, Fiji

 

The fourth WCO/JICA Joint Sub-Regional Working Group Activity for Master Trainer Programme (MTP) on Customs Valuation and HS Classification for the Pacific Islands was held from 12 to 16 June 2023 in Suva, Fiji. The Working Group Activity was organized by the WCO and JICA with the support of ROCB A/P as well as in cooperation with the Fiji Revenue & Customs Service. A total of 22 participants representing six WCO Members in the Pacific region, namely Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Timor-Leste, Tonga, and Vanuatu as well as the representatives from the Australian Border Force (ABF) and New Zealand Customs Service (NZCS) attended the Working Group Activity in person. Together with the experts on Customs Valuation and HS Classification from the WCO and Japan Customs, Ms. Yuko Mamiya, Program Manager of the ROCB A/P, also attended to assist in organizing the Working Group Activity.

 

In the course of the Working Group Activity, WG Members discussed the further improvement of training materials for the Pacific Islands and actively provided valuable insights. Furthermore, Members practiced the presentations which are developed by themselves to further improve their presentation skills. At the end of this Working Group Activity, the participants reviewed and updated their work plan as well as demonstrated their strong commitment to all activities written in the work plan in order to achieve the objectives of the MTP through progressive follow-up activities. Ms. Yuko Mamiya delivered the closing remarks in the closing ceremony on behalf of the WCO and ROCB A/P. She expressed sincere appreciation to the FRCS, JICA, Experts and WG Members for their contribution to the success of this Working Group Activity.

 

During this Working Group Activity, significant progress was made in developing the training materials which will greatly assist customs officers in the Pacific region in enhancing their knowledge and skills. The participants expressed their appreciation to the WCO, the JICA, Japan Customs, experts and the ROCB A/P.
