The 6th Masterclass workshop jointly organized by the WCO, ROCB A/P, and UN ESCAP was held in Seoul, Korea from February 28 to March 8, 2024. This workshop, supported by the Korea Customs Service, received financial backing from the Customs Cooperation Fund of Korea (CCF/Korea) and UN fund. Eighteen participants from sixteen countries’ customs administrations and relevant border agencies attended the event. Mr. Jaemin Cho, Program Manager, and Ms. Aksara Mackhawiman, Assistant Program Manager, both from ROCB A/P, facilitated the workshop and delivered ROCB A/P’s capacity building activities and policies.
The workshop included hands-on training sessions and thematic discussions covering topics such as Data Analytics Algorithms, Data Analytics Use-cases, harmonizing trade data & documents for cross-border paperless trade focusing on the Electronic Single Window, and leveraging innovative technologies for cross-border paperless trade. Dr. Taeil Kang, Director of WCO Capacity Building Directorate, delivered a special lecture on Data Analytics in customs, highlighting projects like BACUDA, various data algorithms, its challenges, and future plans of WCO.
Participants actively engaged in exercises focusing on managing data quality, algorithms (such as AI HS and DATE), and Large Language Models (LLM). Additionally, they took part in group discussions aimed at developing a master plan for the single window and arranging electronic data exchange based on different scenarios.
The program also provided a study visit to the WCO Regional Training Centre (RTC) in Korea and the Incheon Airport customs, including visits to the express cargo clearance center, Advanced Passenger Information System center, and an E-commerce Global Distribution Center operated by a private company.
